It is often said that it is the simple things that mean the most, so it is worth applying this to your wedding favors, particularly if you are one a tight budget! Your favors do not have to be elaborate creations in order to impress your guests, it is often a gift that is well thought out and personable that is remembered best.

Here are a few ideas for simple wedding favors that you can create yourself.

oVisit your local craft store or search online for some wooden hearts. These are often termed as wood blanks as they are just that blank wooden shapes ready for painting, drilling, varnishing etc. Look for ones that at least 3 in length and if possible with a hole drilled in them at the top, or you will need to do this yourself. Paint them up in whatever color or colors you wish and paint on them your guests names or simple words like love or hope. When they are dry you can thread some ribbon through the hole and tie the loose ends together. These make lovely decorative hangers for door handles or even on bedposts, they are just one of those things that add a little decorative touch to our homes and add something unique.

oMake your own place card holders which can also double up as wedding favors with clothes pegs! Find wooden pegs which have the springs in them rather than the dolly style pegs. Paint them up in your wedding colors and when dry add a little decorative element such as a ribbon rose or butterfly, just make sure it coordinates with your wedding. Your guests can then take them home and use them to clip papers together or simply as a decorative tough to their notice boards! And if they dont take them home then you will have the best dressed washing line in the neighborhood!

oVisit your garden center for a bag of river washed pebbles. Make sure you get ones which are quite large and have smooth flat surfaces on to which you can write your guests names with marker pen or paint. As an added finish you could varnish them with a clear gloss varnish if you wanted a shiny finish. These can then double as name cards and your guests can take them home to use as paper weights or even door stops!

oIn a similar vein purchase a bag of small river washed pebbles but which are large enough for you to write short words on such as love, hope, wish, luck etc. You will need to give 3 or 4 to each guest, with a different word on each pebble. Place each set in a small linen or cotton bag and write your guests name on the front in marker pen.

Create edible table numbers which also hold your wedding favors. Using a small terracotta plant pot stand a tall lollipop in the center (stick it into some modeling clay if it requires support). Get these from a confectionary store that can add words and numbers to them for you and have them written up with your table numbers. Place smaller lollipops around it in the plant pot one for each guest and attach a tag to the pot saying please help yourselves. Cute and simple, but one they will remember!
